Our 4th Rotary Scrap Metal Day was a blast!!

This year we accepted E-waste for the first time - have you ever seen a 50-yard dumpster full of computer hard drives, monitors and old tube-type TV's? We filled two of them!

Also… 80 bicycles for Africycle…

All kinds of junk, 13 tons in total…

And lots of willing helpers!

The event raised $4,500 for Rotary Club projects – many thanks to all who contributed this year and to those hardy folks who helped us handle the junk. Special thanks to Port Perry Salvage who kept us supplied with empty dumpsters and generally made the whole event possible. Thanks also to the Town of Uxbridge for letting us use the arena yard.

Did you see our great coverage in Jan 19 Uxbridge TImes-Journal?

Just before Christmas Dr. Barbara Frackowiak and Jim Roche joined the club.

Barbara is an orthodontist with practices in Uxbridge and Sunderland and Jim is a retired professional engineer.

Then on Feb 9th we welcomed Linda de Boer, a technical consultant specialising in IT.

On Feb 16, Leslie Sachse was inducted followed by Keld Greflund on Feb 23.

Rotary Club to donate $75,000 towards new Skate Park

Youth of Uxbridge efforts to get a new, permanent skate park have received a huge boost from the Rotary Club. A total of $75,000, raised in the community, has been set aside to help fund the venture conditional on the overall funding plan. Of a total budget in the region of $400,000, $150,000 has been earmarked in Township of Uxbridge's 2012 budget and a Trillium Grant application will be submitted for $145,000.

The Uxbridge Youth Centre has undertaken to raise a further $75,000 from other fundraising efforts. The 8,000 square feet park designed by Adrian Gaccia is planned for the Kennedy House Fields, where it will be accessible directly from Main Street North. It is expected to attract skateboarders and fans from a wide area of the township.
